Broker and exchange APIs for algorithmic trading from Spain and the EU

If you want to automate your own strategy (with or without an LLM in the loop), you need a provider with a programmable interface: a REST/WebSocket API, a CLI, or a local MCP server. This page lists the ones in the index, split by whether they mainly serve EU or US clients, and summarises the CNMV's guidance on automated trading systems for retail investors.

Quick answer: 14 non-US-only providers offer an API, CLI or local MCP you can automate (Bit2Me, Bybit, Crypto.com, cTrader (Spotware), eToro, Freedom24 (Tradernet)…). Spain's CNMV notes that only an authorised firm may receive or execute orders and hold client funds, and that these systems are not recommended for inexperienced investors.

What Spain's CNMV says about automated trading systems

The firm supplying the system may not receive or execute orders or hold client funds unless it is authorised to provide investment services.
For complex products such as futures or CFDs, the firm receiving the orders must first run an appropriateness test; if the system amounts to advice or portfolio management, a suitability test applies.
These systems are not recommended for inexperienced investors and require constant monitoring.
No provider can guarantee returns, and commissions from frequent orders affect results.

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to use a trading bot in Spain?

The CNMV does not bar individuals from using automated trading systems, but orders must go through an authorised firm, and whoever sells you the system may not take orders or hold your money without authorisation. Also check your broker's terms: some restrict automated trading. This is not legal advice.
